APRIL GRIFFINApril Griffin was elected to her second term on the School Board (District 6 - countywide) in the November 2, 2010, general election. She is serving as vice-chair of the School Board for 2012. She is one of seven members responsible for making policy decisions and overseeing a total budget of $2.9 billion for the 8th largest school district in the nation, which is also the county’s largest employer with 25,000 employees. She has been a member of the PTA, a classroom volunteer, and active in her children's schools for many years. Prior to her full-time commitment to the school board she was a successful business owner and long time child and elder advocate. The Weekly Planet (now Creative Loafing) honored April with a "Best of The Bay" award for her humanitarian work with the medically needy. April is also a published author with her contribution to the book “Who’s Schooling Who?” She currently serves on the national board of directors of Ignitus Worldwide (formerly Youth Crime Watch), the Juvenile Justice Board, the Hillsborough County Council of Governments, and the Kids Healthcare Foundation. She is a Tampa Chamber of Commerce Leadership Tampa alumna. April was born, raised, and educated in Hillsborough County. She has been married to Brian Griffin for 22 years and they are the proud parents of two sons educated in Hillsborough County public schools. December 2011 |
