FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
In case of an emergency evacuation/relocation, where are the children transported to? Each school has preplanned both primary and alternate on and off campus evacuation areas, as well as parent reunification locations.
How are they transported? Depending upon the evacuation location, students and staff either walk to the designated area or are bused by our Transportation Department. Each school has a specific plan to address, when necessary, how many and what type of buses are needed.
Who is to inform the parents that the children have been evacuated and/or relocated? Normally, our District's Public Affairs Office will get the information out via an agreement reached with Bay News 9 and News Radio 970 WFLA-AM.

How would notification take place during a regional power outage? In the event of a regional power failure, it is highly recommended that parents tune in to News Radio 970 WFLA-AM on their battery -powered radios (as was recently recommended by the federal government, to have in each household).  WFLA-AM has generator capability to allow them to stay on the air for days.

When does the notification take place?  Before or after the relocation? Normally during or after the relocation.
When can parents pick up their children? The best time to pick up your children would be after arriving at the designated evacuation area.
What if the pickup is ordered and I am late?  How long do they stay there with my child? Children will never be left unsupervised.
What identification will be required for the Parent/Guardian picking up children? Any government issued photo identification.
How will exceptions be managed for the release to the correct Parent or Guardian? Exactly the same method used to release children from school. Again, in each school's specific Crisis Management Plan the issue of releasing children has been addressed - schools will in fact have in a separate evacuation kit, an extra set up school emergency contact cards for each child.
