School Board Meeting Guidelines
Opening Statement Read by the Board Chairman at each meeting
Let me briefly review the format of our meeting.
- If we appear to move rather quickly, that is because we have been considering these issues for quite some time.
- You may speak about agenda items at the time they are discussed, or;
- If you wish to speak about an item that is not on the agenda, you may do so at the end of the meeting.
- If you wish to speak about an expulsion, change of placement or special assignment, please note that you will be heard after the regular board meeting, not during Audience Participation.
- Regardless, please fill out a "Request to Speak" form. Please print legibly and I will do my best to pronounce your name correctly.
- You will have 3 minutes to speak, and one person cannot pass their time to another speaker.
- If there are 10 or more speakers to an issue, you will have 2 minutes, but that time limit may be waived at the Board's discretion.
- When the green light under the microphone turns yellow, you have 30 seconds left. A red light will indicate that your time is up.
- Please speak directly into the microphone.
- Please understand that although we respect your right to speak, we cannot allow disorderly behavior, personal attacks or disruptive conduct-if you persist, we reserve the right to turn off your microphone.
- As I announce your names, please assemble along the wall on my left.
- The fact that we do not respond to your remarks does not suggest that we agree or disagree with your comments. We value your input, and we will act upon it as we think appropriate.
