Renewable EnergiesPhotovoltaic system at Middleton HS
Middleton High School, a magnet school for math, science, engineering and technology, hosts a 10.5 kW photovoltaic system as part of the school’s curriculum. In case of a natural disaster or other emergency, the array also provides supplemental power for the Red Cross shelter located in this school. Sixty solar panels comprise the array, which has a battery backup system for overnight uses. Funds for the project were provided by the Tampa Electric Renewable Energy program, along with the Florida Sunsmart Schools program, administered by the Florida Solar Energy Center.

The solar array at Middleton High School was dedicated in a ceremony taking place at the site at 9:30am on April 25th,2007. Attention has been given to project by our local news media.
Photovoltaic System at Walker Middle School
Walker Middle School hosts a 4 kW photovoltaic system designed to help the school function as a hurricane shelter in the event standard electrical power is lost. Also, it provides students, educators and parents with a first-hand look at how the sun’s energy can be turned into electricity. This installation is the result of a partnership between the School District of Hillsborough County, Florida Department of Environmental Protection/Florida Energy Office (DEP/FEO) and the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC).
