Literacy is Everywhere

The High School reading department provides students with the necessary skills to become life long learners, readers, and effective communicators based on college, career and life skills required for success in the 21st century. Reading Instruction at the high school level encompasses not only remediation of required skills but also the necessary enrichment to encourage and challenge all students. The reading classrooms are centered on strong student engagement and rich text-based discussions focused on literacy skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. This allows students the opportunity to think critically and interact closely with text supporting students’ ability to comprehend at a deeper level and express their understanding through both oral and written forms.
