Elementary Education

Curriculum Areas

Art
Elementary Art education is made up of more than paint, markers, and clay. Based on the Florida Standards, certified art teachers implement a balanced and sequential curriculum considering the developmental, social, and psychological needs of students.
Gifted K-12
The K-12 Gifted Department provides support to district school personnel and the community in matters related to gifted and high-achieving students. The goal of the gifted department is to provide information and assistance to individuals and schools as they endeavor to meet the needs of gifted students who attend HCPS.
Kindergarten
The Kindergarten and VPK Program Office provides information for parents and teachers regarding Kindergarten grade level curriculum, assessments and training.
Language Arts
The Elementary English Language Arts (ELA) Department's goal is to ensure student achievement in K-5 literacy.
Mathematics
The elementary mathematics department works with students, teachers, parents and other community members to ensure that all of our students receive an exemplary math education.
Music
Students in grades 1 - 5 receive general music instruction for 60 minutes per week. The district curriculum follows the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for Music and promotes music literacy.
Physical Education
Physical Education is an essential component of the total educational experience for all elementary school age children.
Science
The goal of the Elementary Science Department is to ensure student achievement in K-5 science.
Social Studies
Social studies plays an important role in the development of well-educated people. HCPS Elementary Social Studies is responsible for the instruction of History, Civics & Government, Geopgaphy, and Economics.
