Parents Guide to Heat Related Illnesses
These guidelines were developed to help parents and coaches increase the safety and performance of children who play sports in hot weather. Children who play sports or are physically active in hot weather can be at risk for heat illnesses.
Physical Education Content Assessments
There has been a shift at the national, state and local levels concerning how and what is taught in Physical Education. The Next Generation Sunshine State Standards are grade level specific and are a guide for rigorous instruction.
Secondary Comprehensive Health
The Florida Department of Education defines the program implemented in Hillsborough County Public Schools as Comprehensive Health Education. Comprehensive Health Education programs are based on and are in alignment with the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) for Health Education, Physical Education and Science Education.
Suggested Guidelines for Outdoor Activity Weather Conditions
The 2006 Legislature passed Senate Bill 772 which included legislative changes relating to sun-protection wear and physical education. Section 1001.43, Florida Statutes amended the Student Management section to allow students to wear sunglasses, hats, or other sun-protection wear while outdoors during school hours, such as when students are at physical education.
