Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
Facing a global economy growing ever more technologically-based, a national need for STEM-literate citizens has arisen. As a national leader in education, Hillsborough County Public Schools is well positioned to answer this call through our comprehensive STEM education program. We pride ourselves upon preparing and inspiring the next generation of STEM-literate citizens who will directly contribute to the STEM fields through the workforce or post-secondary education. While many STEM initiatives prepare only some students for success in STEM fields, it is important to us and our community that all students have equitable experiences and access to STEM opportunities.
STEM Fair Winners
The 2017 Hillsborough Regional STEM Fair concluded with two spectacular awards ceremonies honoring the outstanding work of our community's children. This year's STEM Fair included over 1,700 projects in three divisions. Our sponsors, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Stantec and TECO, as well as the nearly 600 judges assisted at the Tampa Convention Center.
Middle and high school winners will be hosted by Bristol-Myers Squibb on March 9th for a day of learning with BMS scientists and engineers focused upon careers in STEM and strategies for success in the State of Florida Science and Engineering Fair to be held later in March. Our three International Science and Engineering Fair representatives will travel to Los Angeles in May for a weeklong adventure with students from all 50 states and over 80 countries.
Our partners at MOSI provided the Best of Fair winners with cash prizes ($250, $500 and $1,000).
