History

• In January 2007, the College Board announced that Hillsborough County Public Schools was selected to participate in the EXCELerator program, as a recipient of $2.3-million in services, training, and materials funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  Hillsborough was among 50 large, urban school districts invited to apply.
  
  
• In 2007-2008, the first year for EXCELerator in Hillsborough County, the program has included four high schools: East Bay, Leto, Middleton, and Plant City.
  
  
• The program has now expanded to include all of the high schools and middle schools in Hillsborough County, making the district the first in the nation to take EXCELerator countywide.
