Education that Empowers

Hillsborough County Public Schools is proud to be the 8th largest school district in the nation with over 254 instructional sites and 30,000 employees focused on delivering excellence in education.

In Hillsborough County, education is more than just reading, writing and arithmetic. Education is analyzing today’s problems to empower tomorrow’s solutions. Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) empower all students to achieve their fullest academic potential by challenging them with rigorous coursework that leads to career and college readiness.

We challenged our students and they delivered.

According to the 9th Annual Advanced Placement Report to the Nation released in February 2013 by the College Board, Florida jumped from sixth to fourth in the nation in the percentage of students scoring 3 or higher on AP exams. Florida also leads the nation in the percentage of students taking AP exams while in high school.

In 2013 Hillsborough County Public Schools had more A-rated high schools than in any year of school grading. The 13 A-rated high schools add up to nearly half of the district’s 27 traditional high schools.

As we raise the bar for our students, we also raise the bar for our educators.

HCPS has joined a national network of partners with the overall goal of developing and training 100,000 excellent science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) teachers by 2021. HCPS is the only school district in Florida and one of only seven school districts across the nation chosen to participate.

With resources that identify a student’s learning style and engaging educational models that combine instruction with hands-on manipulation, HCPS stands at the forefront of instruction.
