The purpose of the Office of Assessment is to provide support to schools through ongoing development and administration of district and standardized tests including the Florida Comprehensive Assessment test (FCAT).  Information provided by and data analyzed from these tests allow schools to make informed decision regarding issues of curriculum and program development and implementation for the purpose of increased student achievement.

The purpose of the Office of Data Analysis is to assist the staff and schools in making databased decisions.  The office is responsible for the development of a variety of achievement tests including FCAT practice tests in reading, mathematics, science, and writing as well as course examinations. Achievement examination data are examined to improve district-developed examinations and to identify curriculum strengths and areas of improvement. Data for school improvement planning purposes is provided as well as for other district initiatives. Data collection and analysis for the MAP and TIF merit pay programs are the responsibility of the Office of Data Analysis.

The primary responsibility of the Office of Evaluation is determining the effectiveness of instructional programs implemented in the district including those funded by the state and federal governments and other agencies.  The overall evaluation of K-12 reading in the district is conducted from the Office of Evaluation and includes oversight of the data requirements and documentation required by the FLDOE of the Comprehensive Reading
Plan, which includes planning, submission, review and dissemination of documents and relevant progress monitoring data for all state reporting windows. Federal program evaluations are conducted as required for federal and state compliance, as are evaluations of programs that are unique to Title I schools and purchased through federal dollars. Support is also provided to Title I schools in the areas of data analysis, valuation and NCLB Adequate Yearly Progress and School Improvement. Additionally, non-instructional program evaluation is conducted upon request. Evaluations provide decision marks with information for program improvement.

The ECE Clearinghouse was established as a vehicle for the warehousing of locally developed end-of-course examinations to be shared by districts throughout the state of Florida. A link to the ECE Clearinghouse informational website, which includes a list of exams that are currently available, may be found in the Quick Links drop down menu from the School District of Hillsborough County website.
