Superintendent Eakins Hosts
Meet and Greet with Hispanic Community
Tampa, Fla. – (November 6, 2015) – Hillsborough County Public Schools is proud to partner with the Ana G. Mendez University System to host a meet and greet with parents and members of the Hispanic community.
The event is this Saturday, November 7, from noon to 3 p.m., on the Ana G. Mendez Tampa campus located at 3655 W. Waters Avenue.
It is a great opportunity for parents and families to ask questions and get more information to help their children succeed academically. The Hispanic student population has continued to grow over the years and now makes up 35% of the total HCPS student population.
Recently, Superintendent Eakins created the Hispanic Educators for Change Task Force – a group made up of local Hispanic leaders and district staff set to improve the academic development of students. Families will enjoy an open conversation with district representatives, community agencies, and members of the task force.
Hillsborough County Public Schools Chief of Staff Dr. Alberto Vazquez, School Board Chair Susan Valdes and other school officials will also be in attendance. The Chancellor of the University System, in Florida, Dr. Luis A. Burgos, will also be present.
“Our student population is very diverse and we must ensure we are meeting the needs of each student. We hope to gain more knowledge from parents and give them information they can use to be engaged in their child’s education,” said Superintendent Jeff Eakins, Hillsborough County Public Schools.
