Gold Star Families Memorial Monument Ribbon Cutting and Unveiling
Franklin Boys Preparatory Academy (BPA) students dedicated and unveiled the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument to honored guests and BPA students. The students, both former and current, raised funds and worked with local philanthropists to make this project a reality. They decided that honoring Gold Star Families truly reflects the BPA core values: honesty, integrity, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, judgment, sportsmanship, confidence and respect.
The event began with a parachute drop by the SOCOM Para-Commandos. Guests of honor, including Hershel “Woody” Williams, Medal of Honor recipient, spoke movingly about remembering Gold Star Families and their sacrifices. The monument was built on the BPA campus adjacent to the flag pole so that students, staff, and community members can reflect daily on the sacrifices of these families. Near the end of the ceremony, five students, along with Gold Star Families in attendance, cut the ribbon for guests to be able to view the monument. A bagpiper played Amazing Grace and Taps, the Blake Jazz Messengers entertained before and after the ceremony.
