Leto High School Celebrates 50 Year Anniversary

Tampa, Fla. – (February 12, 2016) – Students, staff, and alumni of A.P. Leto Comprehensive High School will celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary on Friday, February 19. 

Leto High School first opened its doors in the fall of 1965 with 1,670 students in grades 9 through 11. The school is named in honor of Ateo Phillip Leto, the former principal of Chamberlain and Jefferson high schools.

Students, staff, and guests will enjoy a day of festivities on February 19: 

  • 2:00 p.m., the entire student body will be part of an aerial photo on the football field, spelling the word Leto
  • 2:10 p.m., a time capsule will be filled with current class mementos to be opened in 25 years.
  • 5:00-5:45 p.m., past yearbooks and student artwork will be on display in the Media Center. Honor Society students will escort guests on tours through campus.
  • 5:55-6:05 p.m., Decades Fashion Show
  • 6:10 p.m., recognition of past principals, district personnel, and faculty alumni. A cake reception will follow.

Leto High School continues its rich tradition of preparing students for life. The Collegiate Academy opened at Leto High School in August 2013 providing students with an opportunity to earn an Associate of Arts Degree through Hillsborough Community College in addition to their high school diploma.
