Sixth graders at Mann MS kick off National School Breakfast Week in Florida
The cafeteria at Mann Middle School filled up quickly as hundreds of sixth graders filed in to enjoy a fruit smoothie (made with fresh Florida strawberries), cheer with the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Thunderbug, and celebrate the kickoff of National School Breakfast Week for the entire state of Florida. Joining the students in the fun were some special guests, including Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, former Lightning player Mathieu Garon, HCPS Superintendent Jeff Eakins, and several HCPS School Board members and district staff.
Each student received a fresh strawberry smoothie and was treated to an enthusiastic welcome from their Principal Barbara Fillhart, who introduced the guests and made sure that the upbeat, energetic tempo was maintained throughout the celebration. The highlight of the program was the announcement that Ashlyn Jackson was the winner of the National School Breakfast Week Essay Contest from over 300 entries at Mann. She received a Lightning jersey and had her picture taken with the guests on stage.
