School security officer is the heart of Tampa Bay Boulevard Elementary
Officer Frank Madera, HCPS School Resource Officer, is a deeply involved and devoted member of the Tampa Bay Boulevard Elementary School family. He is also a valued member of School Security Services who has been recognized professionally for his work ethic, enthusiasm, and devotion to duty. His job performance is a large part of why Tampa Bay Boulevard Elementary School enjoys such a positive reputation in its neighborhood, and also why he received the Officer of the Month commendation presented by Chief John Newman in November 2014.
According to his supervisor, Sgt. Marvin Davis, “Officer Madera is an important member of the TBBES family. He treats every child like his own, and he treats the faculty and staff like brothers and sisters.” Officer Madera makes it his goal to recognize each and every student in every grade; to know each of their names and their families’ names, and what their mothers and fathers do for a living. When asked about his obvious enthusiasm for his job, Officer Madera makes it clear that, “I have our teachers’ backs and they know it. It’s not about getting paid; it’s about safety and security at my school.”
In addition, he is well acquainted with the businesses and the merchants in the TBBES neighborhood, and is not shy about asking for help when an individual student, or a classroom, or a club needs some assistance. He is the organizer, coordinator, and facilitator for the Great American Teach In at his school, and a great role model for the students, especially the many who are of Hispanic or Latino heritage. According to Officer Madera, “It’s all about knowing your kids. They tell me anything I need to know. If something has happened on campus or at home, they tell me.”
Officer Madera spent 20 years in law enforcement in New York. His jobs included being a member of the SWAT team and a Firearms Hostage Negotiator; he worked in the Corrections division of the NYPD, and he also spent time providing executive protection for movie stars and the then-Mayor Giuliani. In 2001, he moved from New York to Florida, and joined HCPS Security in 2005, and in 2008, he was assigned as SRO to Tampa Bay Boulevard ES, and his life took a definite turn for the positive. Officer Madera’s heart is full of love and affection for Tampa Bay Boulevard Elementary School, and it is obvious that the school loves him right back!View Full Album
