Chief of Staff Dr. Alberto Vazquez Honored with the Latino Excellence in Education Award
Dr. Alberto Vazquez, Hillsborough County Public Schools’ Chief of Staff, was honored by the Florida Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (FL-ALAS) Wednesday night as the recipient of the Latino Excellence in Education Award.
FL-ALAS celebrated Dr. Vazquez with the Wings of Inspiration Award for his commitment and work with the Latino community and students, who make up 35% of the total student population in Hillsborough County Public Schools.
"What I like best about my job is the ability to be a social change agent that advocates for all students and a voice for families who do not have a voice in a complex educational system.” Vazquez continues, “Overall, being around children energizes me and reminds me why I chose this profession and this calling as an educator."
According to Superintendent Jeff Eakins, “Dr. Vazquez has dedicated his career to educating children. I am proud of the way he embraces diversity and empowers the growing Hispanic community.”
"The advice I would give new principals is to be present. I encourage them to make sure they are present for their entire school community on a consistent basis. I would also encourage our leaders to listen and observe before making decisions. One of the joys of being a leader is the ability to lead with zeal" Vazquez said.
