Freedom students support community through leadership and service learning

November 14, 2016

Freedom High School students are building a strong school culture through student leadership and service learning. Nearly 50 Freedom High School students came out for the community’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. The students filled the parking lot at St. Marks Catholic Church sorting food and packing boxes for this community service project. Their efforts will help provide a meal for about 2000 families on Thanksgiving Day. Each box they filled contains a full Thanksgiving meal for a family of five.

Students and staff at Freedom High School also collected food for weeks at the school. This is the fifteenth year the students have participated in this great event.

Steven Channels, Freedom HS teacher and FBLA co-sponsor, says the community is grateful for the students’ help. “They were fantastic. They worked hard all day. Many students stayed extra hours to finish sorting the remaining boxes. The organizers were extremely impressed with our students,” said Channels.
