Former NY Yankees Player to Visit Students

Tampa, Fla. – (April 25, 2017) – Students and staff at Crestwood Elementary School will be treated to a special visit on Thursday, April 27 at 1 p.m., from former New York Yankees player Alfonso Soriano.

Alfonso Soriano is coming to Crestwood Elementary School to motivate and inspire the students in our English Language Learner program. He will be talking to Crestwood students about the journey and obstacles that he overcame coming from the Dominican Republic to the United States to play Major League Baseball. Alfonso will also be talking about the importance of education and setting high goals and expectations.

Soriano will speak to students in the Multipurpose Room. Crestwood Elementary is located at 7824 Manhattan Ave. N., Tampa. 

Soriano began his professional career with Hiroshima in 1996, but signed with the New York Yankees as a free agent in 1998, playing in the minors. The next year he was voted Most Valuable Player in the All-Star Futures Game and made his MLB debut. In addition, he played second base and outfield for the Texas Rangers, Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs. Soriano ended his baseball career with the Yankees, announcing his retirement in 2014.

He was a member of the World Series champions in 1999 and 2000.
