New Arts Program to Debut at Davidsen Middle School

May 13, 2017

Davidsen Middle School of Tampa is set to introduce a new “Center for the Arts” starting in the 2017-2018 school year that will give students additional opportunities to explore the word of visual and performing arts.

Sandy Anderson, a current Davidsen parent, is thrilled this program is coming to the school. “It will give kids exposure to something they haven’t been exposed to while adding to the school’s strong academics,” said Anderson.

According to recent research conducted by the Arts Education Partnership, exposure to the arts prepares students for success in school, develops critical thinking skills, advances math achievement, and improves school culture.

The Center for the Arts will expand on Davidsen’s current band, chorus and orchestra course offerings as well as introduce a new dance program and partnership with Howard W. Blake High School of the Arts. The expansion of the arts at Davidsen will give teachers the opportunity to infuse the current rigorous academic program with the arts.

The Center for the Arts at Davidsen Middle School will also become a source of connection for the community with creative student performances and local events.

“I think the real impact will come in community pride and ownership. This addition was generated through the passion of the parents to get involved and help keep Davidsen a popular destination for the students of the community,” shared Principal Brent McBrien.
