Tampa, Fla. – (May 9, 2017) – Five students will be recognized at tonight’s (Tuesday, May 9) School Board Recognition meeting for having perfect attendance from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The students are:

Emilie Dunn, Newsome High School
Ryan Ingraham, Sickles High School
Jacob Lorentzen, Durant High School
Logan Phillips, Pepin Academy
Michael Stone, King High School

Suncoast Credit Union and Toyota of Tampa Bay will present each of the students with items memorializing and rewarding their achievements.

Research has shown that school attendance, one of the key performance indicators, is the foundation of student achievement. Seventeen years ago, in an effort to encourage school attendance, Deputy Superintendent Beth Shields initiated an annual attendance program to recognize students who have maintained perfect attendance from kindergarten through the 12th grade.

In addition, Toyota of Tampa Bay will host a special event on June 4, called A Perfect Car for Perfect Attendance to honor seniors with at least one year of perfect attendance. Toyota of Tampa Bay will be giving away a Scion to one lucky senior. The five seniors who have earned perfect attendance for 13 years will receive one entry ticket for each year of perfect attendance for their well-deserved accomplishment. 1,840 other eligible seniors will be provided one entry ticket for having earned at least one year of perfect attendance during high school.

The recognition meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the School Board auditorium, 901 E. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa. The recognition for Perfect Attendance is the third item on the agenda.
