Transportation Magnet Office receives Outstanding Community Service Award
The Hillsborough County Public Schools Transportation Magnet Office was recognized with the Outstanding Community Service Award for raising money last year and collecting more than 80 new bikes. According to the Florida Association for Pupil Transportation (FAPT) website, “the award was established to honor a transportation department, individual or group of individuals working within transportation in the State of Florida which exemplifies service to their community that occurred in a capacity outside of their usual assignment.”
Two Transportation representatives attended the FAPT 69th Annual Summer Conference in Ponte Vedra Beach to accept and receive the $1000 award. According to Tonja Cobb, HCPS driver who, along with fellow driver Connie Hollash, represented HCPS Transportation, "I was honored to be chosen to receive this award on behalf of the magnet drivers and the transportation department. While attending the FAPT Conference, it was such a great feeling to be amongst our leaders to represent our fabulous courageous Magnet Cougars."
Jim Beekman, General Manager of Transportation, says that the division intends to use the funds to continue the tradition and donate future bikes to students/schools. In addition, throughout the school year, Transportation will again challenge their drivers to donate bikes while encouraging their community partners to help support the effort on behalf of students across the District.
