Timeline for Feedback on Proposed Bell Times 2018-2019

Tampa, Fla. – (July 18, 2017) – Hillsborough County Public Schools is seeking input from parents, students, employees and the community regarding the 2018-2019 tentative Bell Schedule.

Hillsborough County Public Schools will be gathering input over the next two months and encourages parents, students, employees and the community to provide their solutions and ideas to the challenges the district faces.

The district must make changes to the bell schedule for a number of reasons. Many students are unavoidably late to school, costing them valuable instructional time, because the current arrival and dismissal schedule does not allow buses enough time to run their routes. There is also a financial concern because the district spends more than 2 million dollars to hire additional drivers to meet the current school schedule.

The School Board will vote on a final bell schedule on October 17 and if approved, will give families nearly a year to make needed adjustments to their schedules. 

The timeline for input includes:

Aug. 1- Aug. 25 Bus Challenge Simulation Scenario  Students, families, employees and the community take part in an interactive simulation of the bus routes and time parameters that currently create time conflicts. This is the same system used by the
Transportation Department to explore solutions. The simulation allows for various scenarios to help resolve issues that currently exist.
Sept. 1- Sept. 20 Online Survey Students, families and employees are invited to complete an online survey regarding the bell times schedule and bus schedule conflicts.
Four dates between Sept. 1 and 20 Public Meetings   Students, families and employees are invited to one of four resource fairs to complete the online surveys and ask questions to district staff.
Aug. 1, Aug. 29, Sept. 12, Oct. 3, Oct. 17 Public Input at School Board meetings Students, families and employees can share their input at upcoming board meetings: Aug. 1, Aug. 29, Sept. 12, Oct. 3, Oct. 17
Oct. 17 School Board meeting Board members to vote on Final Bell Schedule


An email will be sent to all parents, students and employees notifying them that the bus challenge simulation is active and ready for responses, along with the link to access the simulation. A follow up email will also be sent when the survey is ready for input, with a link to the survey.
