Update: Timeline for Feedback on Proposed Bell Times 2018-2019 Bus Challenge Simulation Now Available

Tampa, Fla. – (August 1, 2017) – Hillsborough County Public Schools is seeking input from parents, students, employees and the community regarding the 2018-2019 tentative Bell Schedule.
The Bus Challenge Simulation is now active and will be available for input from August 1 through August 25. Parents, students, employees and members of the community can download the simulation, use it to try out different school start and dismissal times, and then submit those suggested bell times to the district's staff. The simulation allows users to try out a range of scenarios to help resolve issues that currently exist.
The simulation is available on the homepage of Hillsborough Schools' website, as well as directly at: http://www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/doc/1985/administration/resources/bellsimulator/
In addition, the district has now scheduled four public meetings to give families, employees and members of the community opportunities to ask questions of district staff and try out the simulation.

The district must make changes to the bell schedule for a number of reasons. Many students are unavoidably late to school, costing them valuable instructional time, because the current arrival and dismissal schedule does not allow buses enough time to run their routes. There is also a financial concern because the district spends more than $2 million to hire additional drivers to meet the current school schedule.
The School Board will vote on a final bell schedule on October 17 and, if approved, will give families nearly a year to make needed adjustments to their schedules.
