Tampa, Fla. – (September 14, 2017) – Hillsborough County Public Schools students, families and staff have had a difficult week, first dealing with the evacuation and aftermath of Hurricane Irma; then overcoming the devastating fire at Lee Elementary Magnet School.

There are several media opportunities available on Friday, September 15, which will highlight how Hillsborough County Public Schools employees are embracing their school families and their communities:

Lockhart Elementary Magnet School, 10 - 11 a.m., 3719 North 17th St., Tampa

More than 200 teachers and staff from neighboring schools will roll up their sleeves and lend a hand to Lee Elementary Magnet School teachers as they prepare their new classrooms at Lockhart Elementary, the school where they will share the campus starting on Monday. The Lee Elementary teachers will first be given the opportunity to shop at a mobile Teaching Tools store, thanks to our partners with the Hillsborough Education Foundation, to gather school supplies in the Lockhart cafeteria. Then 10-12 volunteer teachers will be teamed up with each Lee Elementary teacher to prepare and decorate their classroom.

New video available for download: Teachers from Lee Elementary gathered today for the first time since the fire in the media center of Lockhart Elementary.

Donations have poured in to equip the classrooms with books and teaching tools – from the school district’s own warehouse, and from a donation drive led by the Hillsborough Education Foundation (educationfoundation.com/lee).

All of Lee’s students will have the same teachers as before the fire, and Lee’s teachers say the experience will make an already strong school family even stronger.

See this link for video of the Lee teachers meeting today along with an interview with Lee Elementary 2nd grade teacher Samantha Levine.
