Tampa Bay Buccaneers promote spirit and teamwork at Lockhart/Lee campus
Fresh off their 29-7 season-opening victory, five Tampa Bay Buccaneers players spent Tuesday morning visiting Lee Elementary and Lockhart Elementary magnet schools.
Players, cheerleaders and the Captain Fear mascot visited classrooms, posed for photos (with both students and starstruck staff), signed autographs and, most importantly, promoted the importance of teamwork and resiliency for the students.
"This really shows our kids we believe in them and, most importantly, that we really want them to believe in themseves," said Hillsborough County School Board Member Tamara Shamburger. "We certainly appreciate the partnership of the Bucs coming up to speak to our kids today."
Lee Elementary burned down one week ago today; its students and staff are now sharing the campuses of Lockhart and Young Middle Magnet School after an inspirational community-wide effort to assist with the transition in just a few short days.
Bucs players wore "ONE-FAMILY" shirts similar to the helmet stickers they and other Florida teams wore on Sunday. Quarterback Jameis Winston mixed games and a little dancing into his meetings.
"It was just good to be able to be there for them," Winston said. "For us to be able to be here and show our faces and show that we are there for them and we are one family, I know that means a lot to them."
New Buccaneer long snapper Garrison Sanborn visited classrooms with nine-year veteran tackle Demar Dotson. Sanborn previously spent eight years in Buffalo. He compared the Lockhart fourth-graders he visited to Dotson, explaining that irt was their job to show their new teammates the ropes, as Dotson and others have done for him.
Safety Keith Tandy and tight end Alan Cross also visited students.
"They actually taught me some things about how to be a great teammate and how to use effective teamwork," Winston said of students. "I think today as a very successful day."View Full Album
