Hispanic Heritage Events in Hillsborough County Public Schools

Tampa, Fla. – (October 12, 2017) – Hillsborough County Public Schools is honored to recognize National Hispanic Heritage Month. The district celebrates the cultures of all students and their families. A variety of events are scheduled at schools across the district to celebrate and give tribute to Hispanic Americans who have made major positive contributions to the United States, our local communities, and the world. See below for just some of the activities planned:
Thursday, October 12, 4-6 p.m. – Foster Elementary, 2014 E. Diana St., Tampa- Students will highlight nine different countries, which families will be able to visit and get their “passport” stamps when they reach their destination and complete an activity. Parents can then visit the final destination where students will perform multicultural dance routines.
Thursday, October 12, 6-8:30 p.m. – Sgt. Smith Middle School, 14303 Citrus Pointe Drive, Tampa – Hispanic Heritage Night with the Sharks. Music, dancing, food, fun and culture for the whole family.
Friday, October 13, 10 a.m. – Burns Middle School, 615 Brooker Road, Brandon- Burns Middle School Fiesta! Ms. Ortega's class will celebrate Hispanic Heritage with music and food. The science classes also researched and decorated their classroom doors with information and pictures of stand-out Hispanic scientists.
Friday, October 13, 10:15 a.m. – Jackson Elementary, 502 East Gilchrist, Plant City – Classes will take part in a read-a-loud in English and Spanish.
Saturday, October 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Migrant Family Festival, 408 Chipman St., Plant City – Food, family entertainment, thrift shop, books, health screenings, school supplies and more. This event is for registered Migrant Education Program families.
Wednesday, October 18, 6-8 p.m. – Shields Middle School Hispanic Heritage Parent Night, 15732 Beth Shields Way, Ruskin – There will be food and fun for the whole family.
Friday, October 20, 5:30-7:30 p.m. – Mendenhall Elementary, 5202 Mendenhall Dr., Tampa – Hispanic Heritage Festival in the Multipurpose room with music, a parade of flags, crafts, food and more
