The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are now accepting submissions
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is open for online submissions. Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) invites all aspiring teen artists and writers to submit work. Deadline for online submissions to the Hillsborough County region is December 14, at 11:59 p.m.
Online registration is required, and there is a small fee for entries. However, if this poses a financial hardship, parents may complete a fee waiver form available on the regional website.
HCPS is a regional affiliate of these awards and is proud to offer this opportunity to 7-12 grade students enrolled in public, private, charter, virtual or home schools in our county. Students can submit creative works in 28 categories, ranging from comic art to photography, flash fiction to poetry, video game design to novel writing, and more.
All works are digitally evaluated first on the regional level through a blind judging process based on originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal vision or voice—the same three criteria since the program's founding in 1923. Opportunities for recognition continue when regional gold key award winning works are adjudicated again by a panel of leading creative professionals on the national level.
All students who receive Scholastic Art & Writing Awards walk in the footsteps of notable Awards alumni who have gone on to become leaders in their fields including Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon and Sylvia Plath, all of whom received Scholastic Awards when they were teens.
Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have recognized the vision, ingenuity, and talent of our nation’s youth, and provided opportunities for creative teens to be celebrated. Each year, increasing numbers of teens participate in the program, and become a part of our community—young artists and writers, filmmakers and photographers, poets and sculptors, video game artists and science fiction writers, along with countless educators who support and encourage the creative process.
