Student Band Celebrated for Making a Major Music Milestone

Tampa, Fla. – (December 11, 2017) – Superintendent Eakins recognized the Spoto High School Band for receiving a Superior rating at the Florida Bandmasters Association Marching Music Performance Assessment for the first time in six years. This is recognition of an outstanding performance of the marching band and is evidence of months of hard work by the students in the program that has been recognized by outstanding music teachers from around the state.
Interview opportunities include superstar student Isaias Martinez and Superintendent Jeff Eakins, who played trombone in his own high school band.

About Isaias: Music is in Isaias Martinez's blood. The Spoto High School sophomore has been honored for his solo performance, is a member of the Hillsborough County All-County Band, and is a nominated member of the State High School Honor Band - all while being ranked near the top of his class with a 4.8 GPA. Isaias is just one of the success stories that make up the Spoto Band honored today by Superintendent Jeff Eakins.
The Florida Bandmasters Association annually hosts a number of events that provide school band programs opportunities to receive evaluation and recognition of accomplishment from outstanding music educators throughout the state, and this specific event was Spoto's Marching Music Performance Assessment, held annually in November with all Hillsborough County High School Bands in attendance.
The FBA’s Marching MPA evaluates marching bands based on music, general effect, visual aesthetic, percussion and guard.
