Congratulations to the following HCPS schools that achieved the Florida Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) Project's Model School Status: Robinson ElementarySchmidt ElementaryLewis Elementary, and Greco Middle School.

At the most recent district PBIS meeting, School Board Member Ms. Lynn Gray, representatives of our district’s PBIS Leadership Team and Dr. Lauren Evanovich of the University of South Florida's PBIS Project recognized schools achieving this distinguished status.

Each school year, the Florida PBIS Project's Model School program identifies and recognizes schools that exemplify high levels of school-wide PBIS implementation, demonstrate improved student outcomes, and agree to serve as demonstration sites to showcase best practices. Model School status is awarded for the school's fidelity of effective PBIS implementation across 10 critical elements with honors ranging from bronze to gold level recognition status.

PBIS refers to the systematic implementation of research-based strategies used to increase positive school climate and decrease problem behavior by teaching students and teachers new skills to provide positive supports in classroom environments. In total there are currently 73 schools recognized by HCPS and the Florida PBIS Project as active PBIS schools.

Since opening, Schmidt’s faculty have proudly implemented PBIS and have earned the distinction of PBIS Model School status since 2007. Robinson’s faculty has also achieved PBIS Model School status since 2014. During a spotlight of exemplary PBIS practices, Greco Middle School’s PBIS Point-of-Contact, Artesia Dunbar, shared their ‘ROAR Stops’ that uniquely captures student knowledge of schoolwide expectations. Lewis Elementary was also honored for their PBIS implementation.
