Plant City High School senior Eric Ugarte was recognized with a Swope, Rodante Vanguard Award on April 23. Ugarte has been named their 2018 April Student Athlete of the Month, earning him an award and $1,000 for the Plant City High School athletics program.

Managing Partner Karina Perez presented him the award during an after school presentation.

Ugarte is the team captain for the varsity soccer team. He took the team to the state championship and was able to lead the team to Plant City High School’s first state championship win in school history. He has also been named the Class 5A Florida Soccer Player of the Year. Coach Caleb Roberts nominated Ugarte for his commitment. The son of migrant workers, Ugarte balances his life extraordinarily well between school, soccer and work.

Ugarte volunteers at Burney Elementary and at the United Food Bank in Plant City. Even with his busy schedule, he has maintained an unweighted GPA of 3.6. After graduating from high school, he plans to play soccer at Southeastern University in Lakeland.
