Navy Week Events Will Inspire Thousands of Hillsborough County Public Schools Students

Tampa, Fla. – (May 6, 2018) – Students and staff in Hillsborough County Public Schools will welcome dozens of Navy personnel into their classrooms this week. Sailors from across the country will deliver inspiring messages to students and show them how what they are learning in the classroom can lead directly to a career in the military or civilian worlds.
Navy Week is scheduled Monday through Friday, May 7-11, with various activities, demonstrations and discussions about the roles and responsibilities of the Navy.
Here are just a few highlights scheduled in Hillsborough County Public Schools for Monday, May 7:
- 9 a.m. – Navy personnel in War of 1812 period uniforms from the USS Constitution will share history lessons, Dunbar Elementary Magnet School, 1730 W. Union St., Tampa
- 10 a.m. – Navy Ceremonial Guard members will demonstrate and discuss their patriotic duties, Armwood High School, 12000 US Hwy. 92, Seffner; students from Strawberry Crest and Plant City High Schools will participate as well
- 10 a.m. – Musicians from Navy Band Southeast will give a music clinic for students and perform a concert at one of Tampa Bay’s premier high school music programs, Sickles High School, 7950 Gunn Hwy., Tampa
- Time TBD – Navy JAG attorneys will bring a legal discussion to students in the area’s only high school with both a Maritime and Criminal Justice Leadership Academy, Jefferson High School, 4401 W. Cypress St., Tampa
