Non-Traditional Programs is comprised of various programs available in Hillsborough County. These programs provide an alternative in which to educate students when disciplinary measures make it necessary for students to relocate from a traditional school setting. The following programs comprise Non-Traditional Programs:

  • Alternative To Out-of-School Suspension (ATOSS) is the district’s suspension amnesty program for students who have been suspended from school as a consequence for inappropriate behavior. For ATOSS website, Click Here.
  • Alternative Education is an opportunity for students who have been assigned a “Change of Placement” through their traditional school due to disciplinary actions. For more information regarding entry/exit criteria for the program, Click Here.
  • Youth Services is a division of Hillsborough County Public Schools and is partnered with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice to provide education and guidance services to youth in 10 residential/detention facilities. For Youth Services website, Click Here.
  • Juvenile Justice Transition Department (JJTD) for Hillsborough County Public Schools provides a seamless educational transition for students going to and returning from juvenile justice facilities and other types of commitment facilities throughout Florida and the United States. Charter Schools are also under the Non-Traditional Programs umbrella. Charter schools are independent public schools that hire their own teachers, design their own academic program, and control their own finances. They have their own board of directors that make decisions for the school. Charter schools give parents another “choice” to traditional schools.
