The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida, met in regular session Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at 4 p.m., in the School Board Auditorium, 901 East Kennedy Boulevard, Tampa, with Superintendent Jeff Eakins, and Board Members Steve Cona, Lynn Gray, Stacy Hahn, Karen Perez, Tamara Shamburger, Melissa Snively and Cindy Stuart present.  Chair Tamara Shamburger presided.

School Board Meeting recessed at 4:09 p.m. and reconvened at 4:18 p.m.

Moment of Silence and Pledge of Allegiance:  Moment of silence followed by Vice Chair Snively leading in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

Acknowledged Entertainment:

Vice Chair Snively recognized the Turner/Bartels K-8 Bengals who provided entertainment prior to the meeting.  Each student, teachers and conductors introduced themselves.

Student Representative:  Chair Shamburger introduced Jamie Koopman, Wharton High School student, Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) member who served as the Student School Board Representative.

Chair Shamburger recognized the attendance of the Tampa Metropolitan Alumni Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Leslie Granich – Instructional Leadership Director, Secondary Education, highlighted the item.   Mrs. Granich introduced Jenna Ezzie – Art Teacher, Muller Elementary School and Carol Vick – Art & Education Manager

Adoption of Proclamation – Music In Our Schools Month, March 2019 (Office of Teaching and Learning)

Melanie Faulkner – Supervisor, Elementary Music, highlighted the item.  Mrs. Faulkner introduced XXXX who sang the National Anthem.  Mrs. Faulkner introduced Kathryn Jurado – teacher at Claywell and President-Elect, Elementary Music Council and Revae Douglas – Band Director, Brandon High School. The Elementary All State Chorus students sang the National Anthem.

Motion by Mr. Cona, second by Vice Chair Snively, to Adopt the Proclamation – Music in Our Schools Month, March 2019.   Motion unanimously carried.

Adoption of Proclamation - Intellectual Disabilities Awareness Month, March 2019 (Academic Support and Federal Programs)

Dr. Glenda "Dee” Koshy – Supervisor, Autism Spectrum Disorders Program, highlighted the item.  Dr. Koshy recognized Mr. Craig Woodard, parent, Down Syndrome advocate.  Mr. Woodard read the proclamation.

Motion by Vice Chair Snively, second by Mrs. Gray, to Adopt the Proclamation – Intellectual Disabilities Awareness Month, March 2019.   Motion unanimously carried.

Sharon Barber – Vice Chair, National Association of Social Workers Florida Chapter, Tampa Bay, highlighted the item and read the proclamation.
