The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida, met in a special session Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at

10 a.m., in the School Board Auditorium, 901 East Kennedy Boulevard, Tampa, with Board Members Steve Cona, Lynn Gray, Stacy Hahn, Karen Perez, Tamara Shamburger, Melissa Snively and Cindy Stuart (arrived at 10:05 a.m.) present.  Chair Tamara Shamburger presided.

Approximately 30 people were in the audience, including other school district personnel.

Call to Order:  Meeting called to order at 10 a.m.

Moment of Silence and Pledge of Allegiance:  Moment of silence followed by Vice Chair Snively leading in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Board – Roll Call:  Chair Shamburger declared a quorum with six Board Members present.  Cindy Stuart arrived at 10:05 a.m.

Motion by Mr. Cona, second by Mrs. Stuart, to Approve the Consent Agenda.  Motion unanimously carried.

Dr. Marie Whelan provided brief highlights prior to discussion. Dr. Whelan introduced Sandy Gero – Regional Search Associate, Ray & Associates.  Mrs. Gero highlighted the Superintendent Search Survey.

Motion by Vice Chair Snively, second by Mrs. Stuart, to Approve the 13 Recommended Characteristics to include Combining 12 & 18 as an Additional Recommendation and Adding a Link to Updated Job Description.  Motion unanimously carried.

Mr. Ray performed simulation interview process with Board members. 

  • Candidate names will be provided to Board
    • Matrix will be completed to rank preferences

School Board meeting recessed at 11:24 a.m. and reconvened at 11:31 p.m.

  • Matrix for reaching consensus on candidates reviewed
    • Application closes December 11, 2019
    • Matrix will be completed in January 7, 2020 with list of candidates provided by Ray & Associates
    • 10/12 applicants may be chosen
    • Discussion on matrix will occur after completed individually by Board member
    • Interview will begin January 16, 2020, from results from Forced Matrix
