Your Mission. Their Future. Teach in Tampa.
BIG-TIME in the Sunshine
Welcome to your source to find out why teaching in Hillsborough Schools is BIG-TIME in the Sunshine.
We are “BIG-TIME” because Hillsborough Schools is America’s eighth-largest district with more than 200 schools. That size gives us strength because with our resources we have a wide array of school options at every level.
We are “Sunshine” because of our location in the beautiful West Central part of Florida. Tampa offers urban, suburban and rural options, making this a great place to live, work and play. It’s a vibrant city and you don’t have to shovel sunshine!
The Hillsborough Schools district is hiring a wide array of candidates: recent college graduates, people in career transition, and especially specialists who can inspire our diverse population and help mold our students into tomorrow’s leaders.
The district launched a program in fall 2018 called Achievement Schools to focus on students with the highest needs. We seek special teachers for these positions.
THAT’S WHY HILLSBOROUGH SCHOOLS ANNOUNCES: Teachers in Achievement Schools are eligible for pay differential up to $13,000 a year including special incentives. This incentive, called Spark, is designed to spark your interest and spark the minds of the children you’ll inspire. Bonus pay and free or discounted child care are part of the incentives.
Wherever your passion has led you as an educator, we think that once you experience Tampa’s schools, we will be your final destination!

The route to becoming a teacher requires education and certification. The most critical component is understanding your state’s specific requirements. While one clear route is available for those just graduating from college, it isn’t the only route. By following your state’s alternative certification route, you can become a teacher as part of a career change.
We are looking for motivated teachers who are committed to making an impact on student achievement and closing the achievement gap. In an effort to meet our goals, the HCPS Teacher Recruitment Office has committed to hosting and participating in a variety of community outreach and recruitment events: Webinars, Interview Nights, Teacher Interview Day (TID), College Campus Visits, Career Expo, and more.
