K-12 Dance Education
The Department of K-12 Physical Education is a vital link between Hillsborough County Public Schools, students, parents and the community on content related to K-12 physical education, health education and dance education - fine arts. Research indicates that healthy, physically active students are more likely to be academically motivated, alert, and successful. As a result, the goal of this department is to help students understand and make informed decisions about the value of leading physically active and healthy lifestyles.
This office also provides a variety of other services related to physical education, health education and fine arts - dance education. These services include, but are not limited to curriculum review and development, teacher preparation through professional development and student instruction and assessment. In addition, this office serves as a liaison between local, state, and national agencies that are affiliated with and support these content areas.
Dance Education is a vital component of the Hillsborough County Public Schools K-12 Fine Arts Magnet program. American Ballet Theatre Certified (ABT) teachers at Muller Elementary Magnet School, Phillip Shore Elementary Magnet School, Orange Grove Middle Magnet School of the Arts, Progress Village Middle Magnet School of the Arts and Howard W. Blake High School offer students a unique learning opportunity which encourage the use of dance as a medium of creative movement and expression. Students learn age appropriate strategies that empower them to explore, create, interpret, and replicate a wide range of techniques, skills and styles of dance. While being encouraged to work independently and collaboratively, students receive personal attention tailored to their individual needs and abilities. In addition, students learn class and performance etiquette, analytical and problem-solving skills, and studio practices in a safe dance environment. Public performances often serve to support, extend, and assess learning in the classroom and as a culmination of specific instructional goals and objectives.
While there are a variety of supportive and informational services available through the Department of K-12 Physical Education and Dance Education there is one essential theme; provide consistent, concise and research based information to the students, parents, teachers and the community about the value of leading physically active and healthy lifestyles.
