Transition specialists to provide supplemental services, support, and follow-up for students exiting/entering DJJ or alternative education programs.
Teachers and aides to provide supplemental services at facilities that operate core/day academic programs.
Tutors to provide after school/evening tutoring on a part-time basis at facilities that operate residential programs.
Equipment, software, supplies, and technical support to provide extra support in academic areas of greatest need.
Professional & technical service agreements with current and future providers to meet the unique academic needs of children and youth who are at-risk such as mentoring, student-oriented legal workshops, motivational seminars, academic and vocational success coaching, and training in goal-setting, decision making and leadership skills, and training in vocational or computer skills.
The goals are to:
Improve educational services for these children so they have the opportunity to meet challenging state academic content and achievement standards
Provide them with services to successfully transition from institutionalization to further schooling or employment
Prevent at-risk youth from dropping out of school, and to provide dropouts, children and youth returning from locally operated juvenile correctional facilities, including facilities involved in community day programs, with a support system to ensure their continued education
