A MESSAGE FROM SUPERINTENDENT JEFF EAKINS REGARDING THE SURVEY ON EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT EDUCATION (ESE)
Change happens because of feedback from YOU. That is why I am encouraging parents to complete this year’s Florida Department of Education’s (FDOE) ESE Survey.
Each year, the FDOE surveys families of children with an individual education plan (IEP) to determine how well each school is partnering with parents and working together to enhance their child’s education.
All states must collect this data as a requirement under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)—But the information gathered from this survey means SO MUCH for our schools and our students. For example, because of information gathered from previous surveys, Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System (FDLRS) now offers more parent training sessions in the evening as well as upon request at individual schools. We have also updated our Exceptional Student Education portion of the website, offering information about organizations that offer support for families and clarity on the process when you may disagree with a decision of the school.
In order for your voice to be heard, this survey must be completed by May 31st.
You can fill out the survey online at www.esesurvey.com. If you prefer a paper copy, please contact your child’s ESE case manager or Debbie Valdes, FDLRS Parent Services Program Manager at 813-837-7733 or by email at Debbie.Valdes@sdhc.k12.fl.us.
We can ONLY improve with input from our families. Thank you for your help as we improve our efforts to prepare students for life!
