Hillsborough High is now home 3DE by Junior Achievement. What does that mean?

What are the benefits of 3DE by Junior Achievement?
Case methodology is proven to increase student engagement, strengthen comprehension, build critical thinking and accelerate academic performance. 3DE students cut chronic absenteeism in half when compared to their peers. 3DE students consistently outperform their peers on 100% of the statistically-significant academic benchmarks. In addition, 3DE’s first graduating class is projected to improve graduation rates by 70% since the launch in 2015.
Who needs to apply to be accepted into 3DE at Hillsborough High?
All incoming ninth grade students from outside of the Hillsborough attendance boundary must apply if they wish to be part of the new 3DE program. Students from outside of the Hillsborough attendance boundary will be accepted by lottery selection from among all applicants based on our district’s Choice lottery procedures. Students scheduled to be in tenth, eleventh and twelfth grades who will attend the school in 2020-21 do not need to apply, because 3DE by Junior Achievement will not yet include those grade levels.
My child is currently zoned to attend Hillsborough High in 2020-2021. Do I still need to apply?
If your student is zoned for Hillsborough High, you do NOT need to complete a Choice application. Students who will be entering ninth grade in 2020-21 and are interested in the 3DE program at Hillsborough High will register for the 3DE program when they complete their course programming sheet. Students who are within the Hillsborough High attendance boundary but do not wish to apply for 3DE will still attend Hillsborough High.
How do I apply to be in 3DE by Junior Achievement?
The application process for 3DE by Junior Achievement is completed through our district’s online Choice process at HillsboroughSchools.org/choice. The application period opens October 25, 2019 at 5 p.m. The deadline for applications is December 31, 2019. All applications are processed after the December 31 deadline, so the date of your application does not affect your chance of being selected—submitting an application in October is the same as submitting in December.
When will I find out if my child got accepted into 3DE at Hillsborough High?
School Choice applications are due by December 31, 2019. Families will be notified if their student has been accepted to Hillsborough High by the end of February.
Will school bus transportation be available?
Magnet bus transportation will NOT be available for 3DE by Junior Achievement students who live outside of the Hillsborough High attendance boundary. Local bus transportation will be provided only for students who live within the Hillsborough High attendance boundary and are eligible for transportation under Florida law and school district policy.
My child is a current student at Hillsborough High. Can I apply for 3DE?
Current students at Hillsborough High will not be enrolled in 3DE. The 3DE program will only be available for ninth grade beginning in 2020-2021, and will phase in to include all grade levels within four years. The full 3DE program will grow to add tenth grade in 2021-22, eleventh grade in 2022-23 and twelfth grade in 2023-24.
