The well-being of our students and staff is our top priority.

Our school health personnel are in constant contact with the Florida Department of Health about health concerns across our country and around the world, including the flu and coronavirus.

Our district’s current proactive preparations encompass three main areas: Physical, Medical and Educational

Our School Campuses
  • Two shipments of disinfecting wipes have been delivered to our schools for classroom spot cleaning. Custodial crews have separate supplies for disinfecting.
  • Our schools are focusing extra cleaning in areas where the virus is most likely spread as our custodial crews apply the cleaning methods they use during flu season.
  • Large Scale outside vendors are on stand-by, who can deep-clean classrooms or entire schools. These are the vendors cleansing Farnell Middle School and the 21 school buses that service Farnell.
  • Hand dispensers have been installed at every school and on every school bus.

Preventing Disease Spread
  • Under guidance from the Department of Education and Florida Health Department, anyone who travels out of the country or on a cruise MUST self-isolate for 14 days upon return. This means no going to school or work.
  • Based on recommendations from the Florida Department of Education, until further notice, our district is canceling all planned school-sponsored trips outside Florida for district operated schools if they involve air travel.
  • Enforcing proper cleanliness procedures to our students. Showing a district-produced video on morning shows so students can be aware of healthy procedures.
  • Ensuring protocols are in place so every school and school nurse can get fast answers from experts.

Ensuring Learning Continues
  • Directing teachers to post assignments on our Edsby website so students who miss school can keep up with classroom lessons.
  • Encouraging parents to know their students’ Edsby and Clever logins.
  • Posting grade-appropriate instruction on Clever so students can get additional educational resources provided to them in the event of a school closure.

If a case is detected, some possible steps we may take, guided by the Florida Department of Health, include:

  • Having a specific classroom or group of students stay home or be otherwise isolated
  • Isolation of students within a school, minimizing large gatherings
  • Closure of a school (this is a last resort)
  • Surveys sent into the community to determine relatives and others who may be infected
  • The Florida Department of Health would take over and direct any larger response
