Career Pathways - At A Glance

As part of our Hillsborough County Public Schools, The Adult and Career Services Center (ACSC) is a “one-stop shop” which promotes education and training opportunities bridging the gap between Adult Education, Hillsborough Technical College and the workforce. Free educational, career counseling and academic advising is available to assist students in enhancing their knowledge along with an alignment of resources to meet educational and career objectives. Financial Aid assistance, grant and agency funding resources are available along with placement assistance.

Career Pathways is a workforce development initiative adopted at national, state and local levels to integrate programs intended to develop students’ academic, technical and employability skills. This initiative is for the Adult Education student, providing career development standards, digital literacy and workforce preparation activities designed to be integrated in the ABE, GED and ESOL frameworks. Students can access Florida’s career information delivery system, MyCareerShines, for career exploration as part of a four phase process. Phase I assists students in the creation of an Interest Profile and unique web address while managing their workforce preparation activities. Students have the ability to acquire job search skills for employment, create a cover letter, resume and develop interviewing techniques.

As part of Phases II and III and through the ACSC staff, Adult Education students will receive ongoing assistance and advising which will provide support services for students to transition into postsecondary education, apprenticeship programs and the workforce. Students learn to locate resources, navigate, organize and plan for their educational and career goals. Phase IV provides an opportunity for our adult learners, their family and friends to attend a “Gateway to Your Future” free evening community event. Available resources and integrated support services from our service provider partners include financial, health, social and family support, transportation and educational opportunities expanding and creating an ultimate path to employment.
