October 11, 2018: Potential Applicant Orientation will be held in Room 130 at the Instructional Services Center (ISC) located at 2920 North 40th Street, Tampa FL, 33605 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This orientation is designed to advise potential charter applicants of the application process aligned with Florida Statutes and will include tips on applying for a charter within Hillsborough County.
January 2, 2019: Letter of Intent to Jenna Hodgens, General Director of Charter Schools, declaring the intent to submit a charter school application for the February 1, 2019 deadline. Please include the intended name of the school, enrollment projections and the location, if known.
February 1, 2019: Application deadline for the 2020-2021 school year. Applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. Please see Application Instructions for additional required information.
Approved Applicant Training
Section 1002.33(6)(f)2., F.S., requires a charter school applicant to participate in the training provided by the Department of Education after approval of an application but at least 30 calendar days before the first day of classes at the charter school. The training must include instruction in accurate financial planning and good business practices. If the applicant is a management company or a nonprofit organization, the charter school principal and the chief financial officer or his or her equivalent must also participate in the training. A sponsor may not require a high-performing charter school or high-performing charter school system applicant to participate in the training described in this subparagraph more than once.
Post-approval trainings for the 2018 application cycle (charter schools approved or pending approval to begin classes in fall 2019) will be scheduled by the Department of Education in the Spring of 2019.
