In 2017, Hillsborough County Public Schools made a historic move by adopting a district-wide racial equity policy (HCPS policy # 2260.03) that calls for identifying and addressing the root causes of racial disparities in student learning. The role of the Office of Diversity is to promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives in all sectors of the organization. The Office of Diversity assists the district and school leaders in developing equity goals that are aligned with the district's strategic plan. The following are a few of the equity goals:
To become a culturally competent school district that is equipped to meet the needs of our increasingly diverse student population by offering or facilitating diversity, equity, inclusion related training.
To work closely with division and school leaders in integrating best practices into the curriculum with the purpose of addressing and eliminating academic disparities.
To collaborate with the Division of Human Resources on recruitment efforts to increase workforce diversity.
