Why #WeAchieveTogether: Principal April Gillyard

September 26, 2018 - Employee Excellence
April Gillyard is the Principal at Memorial Middle School.

I want kids to know they’re coming to a safe environment, where they can maximize their potential to learn and grow and be successful. It’s so rewarding when I see this success in action, when students are excited about showing me their progress reports to show how much they’ve learned.

We remind our students, “You’re a game changer.” That’s our theme. I tell everyone, you will change the game just by doing your part and having pride in our school.

I would like to see Memorial Middle School as an “A” school. That’s the goal, to make sure that we are doing everything in our power to make sure that every kid on this campus makes a learning gain, makes a year’s worth of growth and hopefully can start moving towards that proficient level by the time they go to high school.

It makes me get up every morning and be able to do what I’m doing because I know I am changing at least one kid’s life every day that I come here.

This is Why #WeAchieveTogether.
