Mark your calendar for National School Lunch Week—October 15-19, 2018! The #NSLW18 theme is “School Lunch: Lots 2 Love,” which was designed to help students and school nutrition professionals connect and share what each loves most about school lunch with parents, school officials, and the community.
National School Lunch Week will emphasize the healthy foods that are offered daily at our schools. During the celebration week, school nutrition managers will be featuring a new treat to accompany meals, such as a Strawberry Parfait Puff. Samples will be provided to students throughout the week and then featured on the school lunch menu on Friday, October 19.
“School lunches are healthier than ever with more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and less fat and sodium,” said Heather D'Ambrosi, Nutrition Specialist Team Lead at Student Nutrition Services. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the benefits of our lunch program and the appealing choices we offer.”
School Food Culinary Experience, Tuesday, October 2nd 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
To kick off National School Lunch Program Week, Student Nutrition Services is offering a school food culinary experience where employees, parents, school board members and our community are invited taste how much school meals have changed. SNS will be featuring some of their new student-tested items such as Nashville Chicken Sliders, Queso Blanco Beef Enchiladas, Chicken Pot Pie, Chipotle Chicken Mac 'N' Cheese, Cheesy Spinach Bake, and the new SNS treat that accompanies meals, Strawberry Parfait Puff. Recently updated Federal Nutrition Standards
New standards now require lunches to offer a variety of fruit and vegetable choices such as Fresh Roasted Broccoli, Carrot Soufflé, and Fresh Veggie Dippers. Students must select at least one fruit or vegetable with every meal. Students are offered whole grain-rich items such as hamburger buns, taco shells and pizza crusts.

*SNS serves 240,000 pounds of Broccoli each month
*SNS serves 90,000 pounds of Cucumber each month
*SNS serves 300,000 pounds of Apple Slices each month

The “Lots 2 Love” campaign is made possible by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association.
