October 2 is National Custodial Workers Appreciation Day! It is a day to show appreciation to custodial workers at Hillsborough County Public Schools.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are more than 2.3 million janitors in the U.S. today. Unfortunately, because custodial work is “behind the scenes” it often goes unappreciated.
This day is set aside to acknowledge the work done behind the scenes to keep schools, workplaces and public facilities clean and safe. Please join HCPS by expressing your gratitude to our custodial staff for what they do on a daily basis to keep our facilities shining bright.
One simple gesture: saying "thank you" to the custodial staff for doing an often thankless job.
Our custodians play an essential role in our school community. School custodians not only maintain the building but also play a significant role in the health, attitude and pride of our students and staff.
From cleaning classrooms to trash disposal, our district depends on school custodians to do a variety of jobs to make schools a healthy learning environment.
Unknown to many, several of our custodial staff workers are Wonder Workers.
National Custodial Worker Appreciation should not be limited to one day out of the year. Please be sure to thank the next custodial worker you see and share your appreciation on social media by tagging us @HCPSoperations, using the hashtag #ThankACustodian, and let us know what makes your custodian a #WonderWorker at your school.
