Regina Gordon is the Assistant Principal at Forest Hills Elementary School.
In high needs schools, there is a big emphasis on developing relationships and meaningful connections with students, their families and teachers. When a community is involved in a school there are so many more resources available to students and to teachers.
When you think of the number of students we have at any given school, the more adults we can bring in to support those students the better. We would love to have any members of the community serve as mentors or volunteers, and help us with whatever resources they might have access to. We want to have the community involved with us, wrapped around in support of our school and all high needs schools as much as possible.
Sometimes people shy away from high needs schools, but I would encourage people to come and see the great things that we’re already doing and help us to accomplish even more.
