Jackson Elementary students work on science experiment with the University of South Florida's chemical engineering students

October 23, 2018 - Partners in Education

On Monday October 15th, ten undergraduates from University of South Florida's (USF) Chemical Engineering program presented an interactive science program to Jackson students in 3rd grade and 2nd-5th grade Academically Gifted Program (AGP).

Parents and families were invited to attend and participate as well. The engineers designed standards-based demonstrations including how matter changes state, chemical reactions and chemical changes, temperature, heat energy, mixtures and solutions, and properties of matter.

Jackson students learned about lab safety and made countless connections to the world around them by observing, questioning, and explaining throughout the program. Students remained engaged and eagerly shared their thinking which solidified understanding and allowed for misconceptions to be cleared.

This is the fifth consecutive year USF chemical engineers have visited Jackson to bring science to life for students!
