Ovett Wilson is the principal at Dr. Carter G. Woodson PK-8 Leadership Academy.
The reason why I pursued leadership in a high needs school is because it’s a calling.
I believe that every leader in a high needs school needs to have the “Four M’s:”
Ultimately, having a triangle of support is critical for students. That’s one of the things I believe all Achievement Schools are trying to do – create a level of trust with the community, level of trust with parents, leaders, teachers and students. Once parents feel they can trust the school they will give everything they can.
To see a child grow, it’s amazing. Sometimes you don’t even realize your influence or the impact you make until years after and that’s the business of education. Sometimes the rewards aren’t immediate – they’re down the road, but when they do come back, you realize that you really did make a difference.
